Cheyenne
by David Kraai

Growing up in a one room schoolhouse
You knew about what everyone did
Digging for arrowheads out on the flats
And riding bikes the minute that bell clanked
Out of town to our old, broke down bridge
You’d get a cowboy hat for Christmas
And a wooden train whistle from town
Folks were hoping that time wouldn’t let them down in...

Cheyenne
A place
Cheyenne
In the past
Cheyenne
Can we go back to Cheyenne?

Friday nights you’d go to the dance
Where girls and boys got their chance to meet
Under the bleachers or in the backseat
You could hide anywhere and then
Cruise that beautiful impending Main Street
Feel the breeze touching your face
And love in the air
Down to the riverbank, you could "go all the way" there in...

Cheyenne
A place
Cheyenne
In the past
Cheyenne
Can we go back to Cheyenne?

But outsiders came in
And with them they brought change
Until all around was just another magic city of the plains

Cheyenne
Was a place
Cheyenne
In the past
Cheyenne
We can’t go back to Cheyenne.
